MORNING FROST!?

Since when is it so cold in May, ALMOST JUNE, that there is a Frost Advisory in effect? Because of this almost recording event James and I had to cover up half the field. It took us quite a while to find the tarp, already stored away, gather it and drag it to it's place of rest for the night. Of course there wasn't going to be enough tarp to cover it completely, so we also used a car cover of some sort and a few blankets, and some left over carpet. Even then, not every blossom was going to be cuddled with warmth for the night so we set up the sprinklers to run most of the night. There was a slight sense of frustration going on at this point, for the both of us, so I'm not exactly sure how the sprinklers were to help them, I just did as directed. It was cold and I could see the air coming from my mouth, so as he was finishing up he let me go home. I thought about all the weeds I picked that day and how great a clean row of strawberries looks, but for some reason, my mind couldn't get past the idea of a frost advisory during the last week in May. Then it occurred to me, that even though I spent most of the morning and all of the afternoon picking weeds so that the strawberries could grow, they may not even last this very cold night. We do the best we can and I wouldn't have wish I did anything differently today.
James and I had a wonderful conversation today, while we picked our way up the row – together : ). It was mostly serious, but I really enjoyed it. Do you ever stop learning about someone even though you feel like you're always with them? Well, I got to see a few more dimensions of James when we began to prepare the berries for a cold night out, but it wasn't anything to scare me away. Just make sure you watch out for the blueberry bushes if you're ever passing through. Stay warm to those who have been experiencing the coolness of the night and enjoy the sun, to those who have been blessed with a clear sky and the warming sun.
