The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.

The Good:

The Sun is finally making it's depute for the day!

I've had a blast painting signs on these very rainy days!

And no, not all the left turns lead to Smith's BerryWorks

We sold 150 quarts at the State Office Building Farmers Market today
(no picture to prove it, I have yet to have time to snap pictures or it's been raining and taking a picture of the money seems not quite right, but it is fun to count it!)

The Bad:
Our Praying Mantises never hatched

This, well there is a lot to say about this.
We were on are way to New York City.
What you see now is what we have left.
This built on box used to be walled in.
That is why this is bad.
Though, it could have been ugly
had the wood that fell off
and hit a driving car.

We have wasted a lot of berries...
They may look okay now,
but you just wait...

This may not look so bad,
but trust me, it is.
I went down to the patch
to direct a worker on what to do.
In the mean time, these sat in front of the house.
(just under the eaves I might add)
Just waiting for the rain.
YUP, sudden down poor.
I had to sprint up the big-bad hill
and move them into the house.
THEY WE SOAKED
and trust me...
it was
BAD!

The UGLY:

Give those berries above a few days
and they'll look like this! Just UGLY!

As I finished this post, I am sad to say that it's gotten ugly outside and it's raining again.

One more ugly thing I have to write about is that, tomorrow is Thursday, which is suppose to be a NYC day. But as I am sure you've guessed it. The rain has kept us from picking enough berries to make the trip worth it.

I'd hate to end on such an ugly note so I'll leave you with these great pieces of news:

I am finally making progress with my last job's discrepancies and finally getting paid for the unpaid hours, some of them - at least so far.

Our bees are doing great and making honey - that we might end up selling in NYC.

My brother is back home safely, after I enjoyed having him here for 3 weeks!

And even though this rain keeps bringing me down, I am still loving it here and it can't keep me from loving the One who brings it and takes it away!

  1. Oh but we KNOW why those praying mantis' didn't hatch - I murmured a curse over them after they fell ALL over my body in the car! YUCKKK

And yeah... when strawberries are so overcrowded with mold that they look more like cotton.. you know it's ugly.

I'm sorry to hear about all that bad and ugly news.

But like they say, "no ya can't keep a good dog* down..."
    (*good dog = you)

And I always love to see the pictures. Even if they are ugly.

    Love you.

  2. Hi Anna & James,
Sorry about all the ugly things going on in NY with those beautiful berries. Hopefully the rest of the strawberry season will be great. Your signs are awesome Anna. If the strawberries turn out to not be that great of an income maybe you can go into sign making!!!!
I miss you and love you babe!

I have to correct a few discrepencies in this one. First, I assume that by saying "a worker" you mean me - Ed. 2nd, I wish I could correct your spelling errors (Mollie would not be happy). For example "They we soaked"? REALLY!
